ADHD

What is ADHD?

ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects individuals worldwide. According to the American Psychiatric Association, it is estimated that around 5-10% of children and 2-5% of adults have ADHD.

People with ADHD often struggle with inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, which can impact their academic performance, work productivity, and interpersonal relationships. Individuals with ADHD may experience difficulties in executive functioning, such as planning, organization, and time management. Additionally, they may be at a higher risk for co-occurring mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression. However, with appropriate support and strategies, individuals with ADHD can thrive and succeed in various areas of their lives. As an ADHD coach, I am here to provide personalized guidance and practical tools to help clients harness their strengths, manage their symptoms, and reach their full potential.

Symptoms of ADHD

  • Inattention: getting easily distracted or losing focus, not following through on tasks, difficulty organizing and prioritizing tasks, forgetfulness, and lack of attention to detail.

  • Hyperactivity: fidgeting, restlessness, always being β€œon the go,” excessive talking, and inability to sit still.

  • Impulsivity: acting without thinking, interrupting conversations, blurting out inappropriate comments, and making hasty decisions without considering consequences.

  • Poor time management: underestimating the time needed to complete tasks, underestimating deadlines, and difficulty following schedules.

  • Difficulty completing tasks: procrastination or avoidance of activities that require sustained mental effort, such as homework, paperwork, or complex tasks.

  • Forgetfulness: forgetting appointments or deadlines, misplacing or losing things, and frequently changing plans.

  • Organization problems: difficulty organizing thoughts and belongings, easily overwhelmed by tasks that require organization, and difficulty prioritizing and strategizing on long-term tasks.

It is important to note that not everyone with ADHD experiences all these symptoms, and symptoms can present differently depending on age and other factors. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it could be beneficial to speak to a healthcare professional or ADHD coach to determine if you have ADHD and get the appropriate support.
